Fresh Air Bar-B-Que : Rating +++  Along the backroads south of Atlanta Georgia, is this Bar-B-Que joint that has been in business since 1929

They cook and serve about 2000lbs of pork each week

The old falling down building in the back is the old "Outhouse" they used years ago.  If you look closely at one of the pictures, you can see in faded black lettering, the words "White Only"

The logs used for the BBQ are hugh and a fire is burning 24/7

Big Papa's BBQ : On a small country road off Interstate 40 and on the way to the famous Petti Jean State  Park, is this small roadside BBQ shack, "Big Papa's BBQ".
It is located on Highway 9 at the intersection of  Highway 154 in the small town of Oppelo Ar.
The owner, Larry opened the "Shack" in October of 2008. The hours of operation are,  Friday and Saturday from 11:30am-6pm
Larry serves a great BBQ pork sandwich with one of the best sauces I have ever tasted.

ONE BIG COMPLAINT.
He serves his own recipe beans with a only a fork. BAD, BAD idea. These beans are so good that if he doesn't want to give you a spoon, he better put them in a cup so you can drink the juice

Frank Boyer BBQ Bash : On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, high in the Santa Cruz, CA,  mountains, Frank Boyer put on his annual "BBQ Bash"

About 70 people joined in the festivities that started in the early afternoon.

Frank prepared his "World Class" BBQ consisting of Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork and Chicken.  And it was "World Class"

All of the guest brought a side dish and needless to say, no one left hungry.

If you lucky enough to get an invite,  don't miss this annual event.

Big Green Egg : The "Big Green Egg", the newest collection of BBQ Pits in the Patterson family.
Here are pictures of the first beef brisket cooked in the new Big Green Egg cooker.
This was a small brisket (9 lbs) 
The brisket was rubbed with a dry rub the night before and put in the refrigerator for 15 hours.
The BBQ was loaded with mesquite lump charcoal and lit with an electric charcoal lighter. 
When the temperature reached 250 degrees, the brisket was placed in the cooker and was not touched for the 9 hours of cooking.
The meat came out moist and not over smoked
It was amazing how the temperture stayed constant and used very little charcoal.
The next meat to be slooooow cooked will be pork butts

Best in the West Rib Cookoff : Every Labor Day weekend, BBQ cookers come from all over the country to  John Ausquaga's Nugget Casino in Sparks Nevada, to compete for the title "Best In the West Rib Cookoff". 
The Grand Prize winner walks off with a check for $3500.00
Thousands of people attended the event tasting the competion ribs. 
This years winner was " Famous Daves BBQ"

Big Green Egg Egtoberfest : On Saturday, October 18, the 11th annual Big Green Egg Eggtoberfest was held at the Big Green Egg headquarters, just outside of Atlanta, in the small town of Tucker, GA

Two hundred "eggheads" cooked everything from hor'ourdves to desserts on the Green Eggs.

Fifteen hundred other Eggheads and want a be Eggheads, wandered the grounds tasting and getting BBQ tips on how the participants prepared their favorite dishes

The day ended with a drawing for many, many prizes, the Grand Prize being a large Big Green Egg.

Big Pig Jig 2008 : The Big Pig Jig BBQ Contest was held Oct 31 - Nov 1, 2008.  This fall festival has been held in the small town of Vienna, Georgia, since 1982.  

The theme this year was Halloween.  On Halloween, children from the surrounding area came to the grounds for an evening of Trick or Treats.
 
Most of the BBQ areas are permanent although they are used only once a year.
